Amsterdam Centrum (center) is the bustling, vibrant and crowded central district of Amsterdam. Most visitors arrive in Amsterdam at the Central Station, smack in the middle of the center, and then walk south along the Damrak to Dam Square. To the east of Damrak is the Red Light District, Woarmoestraat and Chinatown. This area is where the original settlement of Amsterdam was located in the Early Middle Ages. West of the Damrak is the New Side (Nieuwezijde), which was constructed later, but still dates from the Late Middle Ages.
